Well the turnip is at the academy. But it's in where the band page is.
The onion.... well I'm not certain but have you checked in post office, shop, home page, cage page, inventory page, job page, town hall? (i remember those pages because I remember I found ingredients from them)

The onion is at the "Home" page at the bottom left corner....
